David Chavin | La Place, Louisiana
Growing up in the small town of Edgard, Louisiana with the Mississippi River at the front door and the swamps of Lac Des Allemands out the back, the natural world was a playground. Photography has been part of a natural progression from fishing, hunting and exploring as a youngster. Rods, guns and nets have been replaced with a camera and tripod. Instead of fish and game, beautiful light and unique behaviors are now the quarry. From the rivers, lakes and swamps to the marsh and coastlines, the rich and diverse ecosytems of south Louisiana have helped to shape the vision shared through the images displayed here. Subject matter usually takes a back seat to the quality of light when deciding whether or not to trip the shutter. Birds, bugs, landscapes and everything in between is fair game when the opportunity presents itself, but the quality of light is the primary factor in creating an image.
Even though I enjoy traveling to other parts of the world to photograph the natural beauty found there, I feel that the best images are made in places intimately known. I sincerely hope you enjoy the images shown here and thank you for visiting.
